Your role

As a Security Operations Engineer, you are responsible for the day-to-day operation and technical maintenance of various security platforms. You will work with technologies such as Palo Alto, Check Point, F5 and Cisco, contributing to a secure, stable and well-managed IT environment.

An important part of your role is Lifecycle Management (LCM). You ensure that security platforms remain up to date by performing software upgrades, applying patches, renewing licences and replacing hardware. You will also address security vulnerabilities, implement technical changes and support incident resolution.

This role offers room for different technical specialisations. Depending on your background, you may focus more on building, configuring and implementing security solutions, or on operational management, maintenance and troubleshooting within existing environments.

If your expertise lies in implementation, you will work on configuring firewalls, load balancers and other security components. You contribute to technical designs and translate requirements into working solutions. Where possible, you use automation to improve efficiency, for example by developing Ansible playbooks or modifying Terraform modules.

If your background is more focused on security operations, your responsibilities will centre on managing existing platforms. You investigate incidents, troubleshoot technical issues, carry out operational changes and ensure security controls continue to function effectively. Automation also plays a role in these activities, for example through executing Ansible playbooks, managing Terraform deployments or using Python scripts.

You will collaborate with other security engineers, infrastructure specialists and operational teams. You take ownership of your responsibilities and contribute to improving technical processes and operational reliability. You are also willing to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to support the continuity of the security environment.

This project has a duration of one year. After that year it's the intention to make the contract permanent at the client.

What We Are Looking For

  • A completed MBO Level 4, Bachelor's or Master's degree in IT, cybersecurity, network engineering or a related field, or an equivalent level of knowledge and experience.
  • Preferably at least 2–3 years of relevant experience in security engineering, infrastructure management or technical implementation. Candidates with less experience and a strong technical foundation are also encouraged to apply.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more security technologies, such as Palo Alto, Check Point, F5, Cisco ASA or Cisco ESA (IronPort).
  • Knowledge of network security, firewalls, network protocols and security platform management.
  • Experience with Lifecycle Management activities, including software upgrades, patch management, technical changes and vulnerability remediation.
  • Practical experience in operational management, troubleshooting and incident resolution and/or configuring and implementing security solutions.
  • Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Git or Python. Experience with all these technologies is not required.
  • Relevant certifications, such as Palo Alto PCNSA/PCNSE, Check Point CCSA/CCSE, F5-CA/F5-CTS or Cisco CCNA/CCNP Security, are considered an advantage.
  • Willingness to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • A structured approach to work, strong technical problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good command of Dutch and English.

Experience within large-scale IT environments, particularly in the financial services, telecommunications or energy sectors, is considered an advantage.
