Business Controller
As a Business Controller, you work at the intersection of finance, operations and decision-making within large corporates in the financial sector. You support management teams with insight into costs, budgets, forecasts and scenarios, so financial decisions are better substantiated. This role suits professionals who understand day-to-day financial processes and can also contribute to improvements in management accounting, reporting and tooling. Your impact lies in strengthening financial steering within complex organisations where many interests, systems and dependencies come together.
This is what you will do
In this role, you are responsible for a combination of operational control and advisory work for the business. You ensure that financial entries are processed correctly, investigate bookings, prepare accruals and create management reports that align with the information needs of the domain. Because reporting within large organisations is not always fully automated, you work carefully with available data, Excel, Power BI or financial systems to deliver reliable analyses.
You are also a sparring partner for domain managers and management teams. You help interpret budgets, forecasts and year-end expectations, where multiple scenarios may exist alongside each other. You understand that a number does not always represent one fixed reality, but can depend on timing, status, assumptions and the audience for which the information is intended.
Depending on your experience, you take more ownership of a domain, stakeholder group or improvement initiative. As a medior professional, the emphasis is often on solid execution, analysis and developing advisory skills. As a senior professional, you are expected to provide more independent direction on financial steering, oversee complex issues and actively contribute to improvements in processes, tooling or allocation models.
What we ask
As a Business Controller, you have:
- A higher professional or university-level working and thinking level, preferably in finance, business economics, accounting or a comparable field.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in business control, with demonstrable experience in budgeting, forecasting, management reporting and financial advisory work for the business.
- An understanding of the logic of management accounting and the ability to work with different versions of budgets, forecasts and scenarios.
- Experience with financial systems such as Oracle Hyperion or Oracle EPM Cloud.
- Experience with Power BI.
- Experience with allocation processes or internal cost charging is a plus.
- Sector experience within banking or finance helps you become effective more quickly in a corporate environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- The ability to switch between detail and management level.
- Good English language skills.
