Medior Java Backend Engineer

As a Medior Java Backend Engineer, you join a multidisciplinary Agile team within the mortgage and customer domain of a major Dutch financial institution. You contribute to the further development of a digital portal that plays a key role in the mortgage process and is continuously evolving.

You work on an existing production application as well as on ongoing change initiatives that require technical depth, stability and continuity in the coming years. You are not expected to act as an architect. Instead, you are the strong individual contributor who can independently pick up, refine, build and deliver backend functionality.

Examples of your responsibilities:

• Developing and enhancing a Java-based backend application
• Designing and implementing new features and improving existing functionality
• Implementing changes resulting from business requirements or transformation initiatives
• Analysing and solving production incidents
• Contributing to performance, stability and reliability improvements
• Stting up proper monitoring, logging and observability
• Collaborating closely with engineers, analysts and product owners
• Taking end-to-end ownership of your work: from refinement to delivery and post-production support

You work according to DevOps principles: you build it, you run it.

Technical background

• Several years of professional experience as a Java backend engineer
• Strong experience with Java and Spring
• Experience working with SQL and relational databases
• Experience with event-driven architecture (Kafka or similar) is a strong plus
• Comfortable working in an Agile team environment
• You value clean, maintainable code and engineering best practices

Other requirements

• Strong command of English (spoken and written)
• Dutch is not required
• You must live in the Netherlands and be available for hybrid on-site work
